As part of our eco-conscious approach, we do everything we can to minimize our environmental impact and promote a form of tourism that is respectful of nature and supportive of local communities.
Eco-Friendly Accommodation Designed with Nature in Mind
Our eco-conscious lodgings are thoughtfully designed to minimize environmental impact. The safari tents are lightweight, movable, and built without permanent foundations to protect the soil. We use solar energy to power the site, thanks to photovoltaic panels and solar water heaters. Rainwater is collected and reused for maintaining the gardens and our organic vegetable patch. In the bathrooms, all hygiene products are eco-friendly, biodegradable, and plant-based.
Gentle Activities in Harmony with Nature
At Otentic, we promote non-motorized, nature-friendly activities that are accessible to all. Kayaking, paddleboarding, canoeing, cycling, hiking, snorkeling, and archery — everything is designed to move gently and mindfully. We also organize environmental awareness initiatives, such as beach clean-ups and waste collection, to encourage everyone to play their part in protecting the environment.
Local, Responsible, and Homemade Food
We grow our own organic vegetable garden, and part of each harvest goes straight into our meals. We prioritize local, seasonal products and short supply chains to stock our kitchen responsibly. Every meal is homemade, including fresh juices and herbal teas prepared on-site. Organic waste is composted to naturally enrich the soil and nourish our plants.
A Return to the Essentials, Far from the Superficial
At Otentic, we value human connection, whether through conversations around the fire or shared meals. Each evening, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., we practice a voluntary digital detox by turning off the Wi-Fi, encouraging guests to reconnect with themselves, with others, and with the present moment. A simple, grounding experience.
Local Roots and a Community-Driven Approach
The Otentic adventure is built on a strong commitment to the local community. Our team is made up of people from nearby villages, helping to support local employment and preserve Mauritian know-how. For the design and maintenance of the site, we use recycled and upcycled materials whenever possible, in order to minimize our environmental impact.
